Businessman Remanded Over Alleged Conspiracy and Motorcycle Theft in Makeni

A 35-year-old businessman, Abdul Mansaray, has been remanded in custody after appearing before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown on Thursday, 21st May 2026, on charges of conspiracy and larceny.

Mansaray is facing two charges: conspiracy contrary to law and larceny, contrary to Sections 25(1) and 13(a) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

According to court documents, the allegations stem from an incident reported on 15th September 2025 at Susan’s Lane in Makeni Town, in Bombali District. Police allege that Mansaray conspired with unidentified accomplices to carry out a burglary at the residence of Mohamed Foafanah, during which a blue and black Star HLX motorcycle with registration number AYN 752, valued at 26,000 leones, was stolen.

When the charges were read in court, the accused did not enter a plea, as the matter is still at committal stage.

The prosecution, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Sorie Conted of the Sierra Leone Police, presented key pieces of evidence, including witness statements, photographs of the alleged stolen motorcycle, and communication records extracted from the defendant’s mobile phone.

Prosecution witness Mohamed Vandi, attached to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters of the Sierra Leone Police, testified that he was on duty when the case file was transferred from Sierra Leone Police in January 2026 for further investigation. He outlined steps taken during the investigation, including obtaining a voluntary caution statement from the accused and reviewing relevant phone data.

Vandi further told the court that Mansaray was cautioned and interviewed in Krio, with his statement later recorded in English and acknowledged by the accused through a thumbprint as confirmation of its accuracy. He also disclosed that investigators requested cyber analysis of the defendant’s phone to trace communications linked to the alleged offence.

Magistrate Fornah subsequently ordered that Mansaray be remanded at the male correctional facility in Freetown.

The matter was adjourned to 26th May 2026 for continuation of proceedings, as investigations continue to establish further details surrounding the alleged crime.
