A 20-year-old man, Alhassan Turay, has been sentenced to 45 months in prison by Magistrate Joseph Toby of the Kambia District Magistrate’s Court after being found guilty of possessing suspected Kush.
Turay, a resident of Massama Road behind the Kambia District Lorry Park, was arrested on 14th October 2025 by the Kambia Police Operations Team, led by Inspector Nelson Jabba. Authorities said they discovered 100 wraps of dried green leaves believed to be Kush in his possession.
The case was investigated by the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU), which charged Turay in court for unlawful possession of a prohibited substance.
At his first court appearance, Turay pleaded guilty and requested mercy, but his bail request was denied, and he was remanded at the Kambia District Correctional Centre for one week. Upon returning to court, he maintained his guilty plea. After reviewing the evidence, Magistrate Toby convicted him and handed down the 45-month prison sentence at the same correctional facility.

Magistrate Toby, who also serves as a Peace Ambassador, emphasized that the court will continue to address drug-related offenses in a fair but firm manner.
The case underscores ongoing efforts by the judiciary and law enforcement in Kambia District to combat the use and spread of harmful drugs, including Kush, Tramadol, and Cannabis Sativa, which continue to challenge communities across the region.
