High Court Judge Justice Isata Susan Sellu-Tucker has sentenced two men to prison for unlawful possession of drugs, following separate incidents in Freetown.
The convicts, Sheka Kamara, 25, of Leah Street off Kissy Road, and Abu Bakarr Sesay, 55, of Kosso Town, appeared before High Court No. 5 on one-count charges each of unlawful possession of drugs under Section 8(a) of the National Drugs Control Act, 2008 (Act No. 10 of 2008).
Court records show that on 28 March 2024, Sheka Kamara was found in Freetown with 25 grams of Kush without lawful authority. In a separate incident on 27 October 2024, Abu Bakarr Sesay was caught at Malta Street in the east end of Freetown with 60.5 grams of Kush.
Both men pleaded guilty to the offences.
Justice Sellu-Tucker noted that their guilty pleas and expressions of remorse were taken into account, helping to save the Court’s time. However, she emphasized that drug-related offences remain a serious concern and the law must take a firm stance to deter others.
Sheka Kamara was sentenced to twelve years in prison, while Abu Bakarr Sesay received ten years. Both will serve their terms at the Pademba Road Male Correctional Centre.
