Chernor Bah Tables Two Essential Bills

Minister of Information and Civic Education Chernor Bah has tabled two bills in Parliament seeking to strengthen the protection of citizens' personal data, improve access to public information and modernise Sierra Leone's national records and archives system.

The proposed legislation comprises the Data Protection and Right to Access Information Bill, 2026, and the National Records and Archives Bill, 2026. Both bills completed their Introduction and First Reading stages in Parliament on Thursday, November 5, 2026.

The Data Protection and Right to Access Information Bill seeks to establish a unified authority with responsibility for overseeing access to public information and protecting citizens' personal data and privacy. The National Records and Archives Bill, meanwhile, aims to modernise and strengthen the country's records management and archival system.

Following their First Reading, the bills will proceed through further stages of parliamentary consideration, including Second Reading, Committee Stage and Third Reading, before possible enactment into law.

Their introduction signals the beginning of the legislative process towards strengthening Sierra Leone's frameworks for information access, data protection and the preservation of national records.
