Chief Minister Sengeh: Gobaru Clock Tower as a Symbol of Vision and Heritage

Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh recently offered a progress update on the nearly completed Gobaru Clock Tower at the entrance of Pujehun. He described the project as a monumental achievement in vision, cultural preservation, and local craftsmanship.

The initiative honors the long-held aspirations of the late Paramount Chief Gbonda, who envisioned a clock tower at Gobaru to coincide with the development of the Bandajuma-Pujehun road. As the road project nears its final stages, the tower stands 99 percent complete, signifying a fulfillment of community-centric priorities.

Designed with a functional and minimalist aesthetic, the structure is intended to operate as a multi-purpose venue, serving as a monument, cultural center, event space, and tourist attraction. Notably, the architecture and construction were spearheaded by Sierra Leonean professionals, underscoring the success of domestic expertise and collaborative efforts with the district council.

Dr. Sengeh also commended the strategic public-private partnership that facilitated the project. Africell Sierra Leone provided essential support while intentionally omitting commercial branding to respect local traditions, ensuring the landmark remains a public asset dedicated to community service.

The interior of the tower is set to feature curated murals and exhibits celebrating the rivers, history, and Paramount Chiefs of Pujehun. Designed to host public events and traditional performances, such as the Goboi dance, the space aims to be a living reflection of community values. To this end, local artists have been invited to contribute their works to the venue.

"The Gobaru Clock Tower transcends its physical form; it is a center for education, culture, and civic pride," stated Dr. Sengeh, emphasizing the landmark's role in fostering community identity.

Already attracting visitors and photographers, the Gobaru Clock Tower is rapidly establishing itself as a premier cultural and civic landmark for the region.
