Coaches Association Demands Formal Apology from Kei Kamara Regarding Coaching Critiques

The National Football Coaches Association of Sierra Leone (NFCA-SL) has formally requested an immediate public apology from striker Kei Kamara following disparaging remarks concerning the qualifications of domestic coaches. In recent social media footage, Kamara asserted that no local tactician possesses the requisite caliber to manage the national team, questioning their ability to develop elite talent or secure Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification.

The NFCA-SL condemned these statements as unprofessional and profoundly disrespectful to the coaching fraternity. The association highlighted the historic success of Sierra Leonean coaches, noting that all three of the nation’s AFCON appearances (1994, 1996, and 2021) were achieved under local leadership, including figures like Sam Obi Metzger and John Keister. 

Furthermore, domestic coaches recently led the U-20 Men’s team to the 2024 WAFU final and secured victories for the Women’s Senior and U-17 teams in 2025.

Reaffirming the competency of its members—many of whom hold prestigious CAF and European licenses—the NFCA-SL urged the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) to maintain its confidence in local technical staff. 

The association dismissed Kamara’s claims as baseless, emphasizing that Sierra Leonean coaches remain the backbone of football development in the country.
