COFA Inter-Community League Suspended Indefinitely After Deadly Violence

The Western Area Football Association (WAFA) has suspended the COFA League indefinitely, with immediate effect, following serious acts of violence linked to Saturday’s match between Kossoh Tong and Krootown Road.

The decision follows the escalation of the situation on Sunday, 13 September 2026, in the Krootown Road community, reportedly resulting in loss of lives and destruction of property.

In a statement, WAFA described the incidents as a serious threat to football, public order, and the safety of individuals and property. The Association stressed that football must never become a catalyst for violence or a platform for retaliation.

WAFA said it will conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incidents and take appropriate regulatory and disciplinary measures based on its findings.

The Association also acknowledged COFA’s indefinite postponement of the scheduled fixture between Kossoh Tong and Fourah Bay but maintained that the measure was insufficient given the gravity of the situation.

As a result, no COFA fixture shall be played until further notice unless formally directed otherwise by WAFA.

WAFA has called on players, officials, supporters, and community stakeholders to remain calm and exercise restraint during the period.

The Association said football should unite communities, promote peace, and strengthen bonds among people rather than fuel hatred, violence, or revenge.

WAFA urged all stakeholders to embrace the game with love, respect, discipline, unity, and sportsmanship, emphasizing that human life must always come first.
