Friends of the Earth Sierra Leone, in collaboration with the Alliance for Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs) for Conservation in Africa (AICA), is set to host a pivotal three-day continental conservation consultative meeting in Freetown.
The inaugural Regional Consultative Meeting for Central Africa and Great Apes countries will bring together a high-level delegation from conservation societies across Africa.
Scheduled to run from September 9th to 11th, 2025, at the Sierra Palms Resort on Lumley Beach, the gathering will convene IPLC leaders, community representatives, government officials, and conservation partners from across the region.
Mambu Alpha Sannoh, Executive Director of Friends of the Earth Sierra Leone, confirmed the details yesterday, emphasising the significance of the event.
The meeting aims to achieve several key objectives:
To disseminate information about AICA’s mission, strategic objectives, and proposed governance structure, thereby popularizing the alliance and expanding its membership base in Central Africa.
To offer a crucial platform for IPLC organizations from Great Apes countries to deliberate on their distinct conservation challenges, pinpoint viable solutions, and formulate unified positions in anticipation of the forthcoming IUCN World Conservation Congress.
