Justice Augustine K. Musa issued a sharp rebuke to state prosecutors for their failure to appear in court on Friday, December 5, 2025, during the ongoing manslaughter trial of Ekubolaje Nicol, citing a lack of respect for the judicial process.

The judge highlighted that this marked the second consecutive hearing the prosecutors had missed without providing any notice or explanation. He characterized their conduct as "unfair" and detrimental to the case's progress.

Following the judge's comments, lead defense counsel Rowland Wright informed the court that the defense had intended to file a bail application but would now be delayed until the proceedings resumed. Mr. Wright reiterated to the court that manslaughter is a bailable offense.

When the matter was adjourned to Friday, December 19, 2025, the defense requested that Justice Musa consider granting Nicol bail before the upcoming Christmas holiday. The judge, however, declined the request, stating that his judicial decisions would not be swayed by seasonal considerations.

Nicol is facing three charges—conspiracy to commit murder, manslaughter, and perverting the course of justice—stemming from the death of his girlfriend, Sinnah Kai Kargbo, on October 16, 2022.
