Mohamed Condeh, a 24-year-old driver, has been remanded to the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown after appearing before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah at Pademba Road Court No. 1 on a charge of murder.
Condeh faces a charge of murder, contrary to Section 1 of the Offences Against the Person Act of 1861, as repealed and replaced by Section 1(a) of the Abolition of the Death Penalty Act 2021, Act No. 6 of 2022.
According to the particulars of the offence, the incident occurred on Sunday, 4th January 2026, at Chief Compound off Wilkinson Road in the Western Area of Freetown. The defendant is accused of killing Gibrilla Sankoh.
When the charge was read and explained, Condeh did not enter a plea, as the case is currently undergoing a preliminary investigation. Magistrate Jah explained that if the prosecution establishes a prima facie case, the defendant will be committed to stand trial at the High Court. Conversely, if the prosecution fails to do so, the defendant will be acquitted and discharged.
Police prosecutor Inspector Mabel M. Trawallie requested a short adjournment to allow for further proceedings.
Magistrate Jah subsequently ordered that Condeh be remanded at the Male Correctional Facility, and the matter has been adjourned to 8th April 2026 for continuation of the hearing.
