Driver Receives Five-Year Sentence for Larceny

Ibrahim Jalloh, a 32-year-old driver, has been sentenced to five years' imprisonment by Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah at Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown. Mr. Jalloh was convicted of larceny, contravening Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.


The court established that the offense occurred in December 2024 at a furniture establishment in Allen Town, Freetown. Mr. Jalloh was found guilty of stealing a Ford Escape Jeep (registration number ANY 386).


The stolen property, belonging to Ishmail Kamel Zayat, included US$1,400 (equivalent to Le 33,600) and an additional Le 1,800, amounting to a total of Le 35,400.



In delivering the judgment, Magistrate Jah stated that the conviction was primarily based on the defendant's voluntary statement to the police, which served as crucial evidence in the prosecution's case.


Prosecution Counsel Lahai M. informed the court that Mr. Jalloh was a recidivist, having recently been released from the Pademba Road Correctional Centre prior to committing the current offense.




Despite Mr. Jalloh's plea for leniency during sentencing, Magistrate Jah ordered him to serve five years' imprisonment at Pademba Road Prison. The sentence underscores the judiciary's commitment to deterring theft and upholding the integrity of property rights.
