ECSL Boss Alpha Assures Northern Region of Credible 2028 Elections

Chief Electoral Commissioner and Chairman of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL), Edmond Sylvester Alpha, has assured people in the northern region that he is prepared to conduct free, fair and credible elections in 2028.

Alpha gave the assurance while speaking on Unimak Live, where he highlighted his previous experience in conducting elections in Tonkolili and other parts of the country.

“One assurance I want to give the people of the north is that I’m ready to conduct free, fair and credible elections,” Alpha said.

He also dismissed allegations made against him as false, saying he would not respond to claims he considers untrue.

Alpha described himself as a “success story” and expressed confidence in his ability to deliver on his responsibilities as preparations for the 2028 elections continue.

The ECSL is currently undertaking preparations for the 2028 electoral cycle, including voter registration, boundary delimitation, civic education, nominations, polling, results management and election security.

Alpha also said he intends to travel across the country without security, saying he has confidence in Sierra Leoneans and believes they will appreciate the work he plans to undertake.

“I’ll move right across this country with no security,” he said.

He urged Sierra Leoneans to have confidence in the electoral process and the institution responsible for conducting the elections.

“My general call is: trust the process, the Commission, trust the Commission Boss and trust yourself before you start trusting others,” Alpha said.
