The family of the late Mohamed Titi Kamara, through their legal representatives, Madieu Sesay & Associates, has issued a firm 48-hour ultimatum demanding the immediate removal of false and defamatory social media posts linking the deceased to a masquerade-related death.
The law firm described the circulating online content, which includes images and commentary, as "false, defamatory, and injurious," emphasizing that Mr. Kamara had no involvement in the incident.
The legal notice highlights that the continued circulation of these unsubstantiated claims has inflicted significant emotional distress, public ridicule, and reputational damage upon the grieving family. The lawyers underscored that under Sierra Leonean law, excuses such as speculation, ignorance, or attempts at social media humour do not constitute a legal defense.
Furthermore, the warning clarifies that legal liability extends beyond the original publishers to include all individuals who share, repost, or fail to remove the content after receiving official notice. The family's representatives strongly advised all involved parties to comply with the deadline, stressing that failure to do so would compel their clients to initiate legal action for defamation.
This demand coincides with growing calls for responsible online conduct, particularly concerning deceased individuals.
