FBC Launches Investigation into Allegations Against Associate Lecturer Justice Momoh jah stevens

Fourah Bay College (FBC), University of Sierra Leone, has announced a formal investigation into allegations made by Ms. Edwina Jamiru, a Diploma II student in the Legal Studies Programme at the Faculty of Law.

The allegations concern the conduct of Honorable Justice Mr. Momoh Jah Stevens, an Associate Lecturer in the same faculty.

In a statement issued by the Office of the Deputy Registrar on Monday, FBC confirmed that it takes allegations of misconduct, including sexual harassment and corruption, very seriously. The College reiterated its commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful learning environment for all students.

According to Deputy Registrar Brima Bah, the University operates a zero-tolerance policy towards harassment, abuse, or misconduct by any staff or student. “The public is assured that these allegations are being thoroughly investigated in accordance with our established procedures and policies,” the statement read.

The administration disclosed that Ms. Jamiru had previously been invited to discuss her complaints and was assured that appropriate action would be taken. The matter has now been referred to the College Discipline Committee, which is conducting a comprehensive investigation and will submit recommendations to the administration.

Ms. Jamiru has also been referred to relevant professional support services at FBC, including counseling. The University urged her to exercise restraint in public discussions about the case, noting that social media remarks about staff members were “of serious concern” and advising her to channel future communications formally through the Deputy Registrar’s Office.

Meanwhile, the University confirmed that Justice Stevens’s contract as an Associate Lecturer in the LLB Degree Programme is under review pending the outcome of the investigation. “Further action, as may be recommended by the College Discipline Committee, will be taken accordingly,” the statement added.

FBC encouraged all students to report any incidents of misconduct or harassment to the appropriate authorities, assuring them that concerns would be treated confidentially and seriously.

Concluding the statement, Deputy Registrar Brima Bah reaffirmed:

“The University is committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability and will take all necessary steps to ensure that our students are able to learn in a safe, conducive, and supportive environment.”
