The inaugural SPL Red Tennis Ball Cricket Tournament officially commenced today at the Prince of Wales Cricket Grounds in Freetown.
Organized by cricket enthusiasts among foreign nationals and supported by Cricket Sierra Leone (CSL), the tournament aims to promote the sport among the expatriate community in the country.
Eight teams are participating in this first edition, including: Freetown Warriors, AH & M Cricket Club, Tamil Tigers, Milla Champions, Shalimar Cricket Club, Odhav Warriors, and Haryana Tigers.
Sponsors for the tournament include General Beverages, Trustline, Saikk, Mamba Point Lagoonda Resort, Saiko Enterprises, Grafton, Bettomax, and Kaljosh Logistics.
The competition is played in an eight-over format, with four matches scheduled each Sunday during the group stage. The tournament will culminate with the final on April 26, 2026.
Speaking on the occasion, CSL General Manager Chrispin E. George highlighted the importance of the tournament in supporting cricket development. He said, “We are giving support to the league since foreigners, particularly the Asian community, have been a reliable pillar to the cross-border performance of the Senior Men’s Team. This is another pathway to talent identification and base expansion.”
The tournament is expected to provide a competitive platform for players while strengthening cricket ties between Sierra Leone and its expatriate community.
