Abdul Sesay, a 29-year-old man and locally known footballer, has been remanded after pleading guilty to theft at Magistrate Court No.1 on Pademba Road in Freetown.
The incident took place on September 16, 2025, when Sesay reportedly entered the court premises and stole a mobile phone belonging to the court clerk, Bakisa Massaquoi. The stolen item, a silver Samsung Galaxy A-15 valued at 12,000 Leones, was later traced through CCTV footage.
Police said Corporal Cecilia Thomas noticed Sesay’s suspicious behaviour, and after images of him were circulated, he was recognised when he returned to the court with a boot for sale. He was immediately arrested and taken into custody.
Charged with larceny under Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916, Sesay admitted to the offence when the charge was read in court. Prosecutor Inspector Mabel M. Tarawalie presented the case.
Magistrate Jah described the offence as serious and denied bail, ordering that Sesay be remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown. The matter was adjourned to October 6, 2025, for sentencing.
