Foreign Ministry Outlines Key Diplomatic Focus Areas After Engagements
Sierra Leone and Guinea have reaffirmed their long-standing diplomatic alliance, emphasizing shared priorities across regional integration, service delivery for citizens abroad, and modernized foreign policy, government officials announced during a press briefing in Freetown.
At the government’s weekly press conference hosted by Information Minister Chernor Bah, a high-level cabinet panel—including Minister of Internal Affairs Hon. Morie Lengor, Esq., Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Madam Jeneba Bangura, and Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security Napoleon Koroma—detailed recent diplomatic and inter-ministerial efforts aimed at solidifying bilateral ties.
Deputy Minister Jeneba Bangura reported that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation recently convened an inaugural summit with Sierra Leone's global diplomatic missions. The conference established a unified strategic roadmap structured around four primary pillars:
Service Modernization: Upgrading diplomatic machinery to meet international standards.
Timely Consular Delivery: Ensuring efficient, responsive assistance to citizens living abroad.
People-Centered Diplomacy: Prioritizing human welfare and citizen engagement in international engagements.
Partnership Expansion: Strengthening bilateral and multilateral coalitions across West Africa and beyond.
These operational priorities were immediately put into practice during a recent high-level Sierra Leonean delegation visit to Guinea. Bangura noted that the discussions dispelled prior misconceptions regarding friction between the neighboring states, highlighting a joint commitment to seamless regional collaboration.
Demonstrating the closeness of the partnership, Guinea's Prime Minister extended a special invitation to Minister Bangura to attend the launch of Guinea’s new foreign policy strategy.
“I got a double assurance that Guinea and Sierra Leone are one people,”
Bangura stated, reaffirming that both nations will continue working jointly to enhance security, trade, and civic services for their populations.
