The former Sierra Leone Ambassador to Guinea, Alimamy Hassan Bangura, has been cleared of any involvement in a recent drug-related case involving an embassy vehicle in Guinea.
Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, provided the update during the Ministry’s weekly press conference on Tuesday, October 21, 2025. He said investigations by Guinean authorities found no evidence linking the former ambassador to the incident.
The case involved a Sierra Leone Embassy vehicle in Guinea that was discovered with seven suitcases containing suspected illegal drugs. Two individuals in the vehicle were detained for questioning, and Guinean authorities have since charged the suspects in court.
Minister Bah clarified that the recall of Ambassador Bangura by President Julius Maada Bio was purely a matter of administrative discretion and not related to disciplinary action. He emphasized that the ambassador was not in the vehicle at the time and was never detained.
Authorities also found approximately $2,000 in cash with the suitcases, though the exact weight of the suspected drugs was not disclosed. Both Sierra Leone and Guinea cooperated fully during the investigation to ensure transparency and accountability.
