The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has announced that the Cargo Terminal at Freetown International Airport will suspend all operations for three days later this month to accommodate security and operational requirements for the upcoming ECOWAS Mid-Year Summit.
According to a public notice released on Thursday, July 9, 2026, the terminal will be closed from July 17 to July 19. During this period, the facility will be inaccessible to all importers, exporters, clearing agents, and other cargo stakeholders.
The NRA stated that the shutdown is a necessary measure to ensure smooth coordination as Sierra Leone prepares to host regional leaders and officials for the summit.
"We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this temporary closure may cause and appreciate your patience, cooperation, and understanding during this period," the Authority said in its statement.
Normal cargo handling and terminal operations are scheduled to resume on July 20, 2026. The suspension is part of broader security protocols implemented by the government in advance of the regional meeting.
