The Member of the Freetown City Council (FCC) has confirmed the removal of Councillor Ibrahim Gbla, representing the SLPP for the Western Urban District, from one of its internal WhatsApp communication groups. This action was disclosed by APC Councillor Unisa Kamara, who represents Western Area Urban, Lumley.
In a public media interview, Councillor Kamara stated that Councillor Gbla's repeated and frequent criticism of council initiatives had generated internal tension among his colleagues. Specifically, Councillor Gbla is reported to have expressed strong opposition to the proposed cable car project, which Councillor Kamara claims Gbla characterized as "fake."
His persistent critique of this and other key council development projects reportedly became a source of concern among the councillors who support these initiatives.
Councillor Kamara clarified that the decision to remove Councillor Gbla stemmed directly from his consistent pattern of opposition and critical remarks, which was deemed disruptive to internal communication.
The action was taken as a measure to manage internal disagreements and facilitate more constructive interaction among the members of the council. Kamara emphasized that the removal was solely linked to Gbla's professional conduct concerning council projects and was not motivated by personal disputes.
This incident highlights the existing political disagreements between SLPP and APC councillors as the FCC proceeds with the implementation of its infrastructure and development agenda across Freetown.
