Freetown Guard On Trial Over Missing Le58k Generator

A security officer guarding a Spur View Estate compound is standing trial before the Pademba Road Court following allegations that he stole an 8.5 KVA generator valued at Le58,000.

Testifying before Magistrate Mustapha Briama Jah, student Santigie M’bayo explained that on June 4, 2026, he was working at the estate alongside the defendant, Abdul Fofanah. M'bayo, who claims ownership of the missing generator, told the court that Fofanah left his post while others finished their tasks for the day.

When work concluded in the evening, M’bayo attempted to leave but discovered Fofanah was missing from his security post. After waiting at the property until approximately 10 p.m. without any sign of the officer, M'bayo departed.

The following morning, after learning that attempts to reach Fofanah were unsuccessful, M’bayo formally reported the matter to the Lumley Police Station.

Led in evidence by Inspector Kadie Taylor, M’bayo confirmed that Fofanah’s sole responsibility at the compound was to provide security services. Following his testimony, M'bayo was cross-examined by the defendant.

Fofanah pleaded not guilty to the charge of theft when it was formally read to him in court.

Magistrate Jah denied bail for the accused, ordering that Fofanah be remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown.

The legal proceedings have been adjourned to October 20, 2026, for further hearing.
