Frustrated Residents Mobilise to Maintain Neglected Boajibu–Blama Road

Residents of Simbaru Chiefdom in Kenema District have mobilised to maintain the deteriorating 24-mile Boajibu–Blama road after years of poor road conditions and repeated calls for government intervention.
The road connects Boajibu in Simbaru Chiefdom to Blama in Small Bo Chiefdom and serves farmers, traders and other residents who depend on it for transportation and access to essential services.
Its poor condition has reportedly contributed to the destruction of agricultural produce during transportation, resulting in financial losses for farmers. It has also created difficulties for ambulance services, potentially delaying access to urgent healthcare, while making travel to Kenema City for meetings and other essential activities increasingly challenging.
Frustrated by the prolonged deterioration of the road, community members, including local stakeholders, young men and women, have organised a community-led maintenance exercise to improve its condition and ease transportation difficulties.
The initiative demonstrates residents’ determination to address the longstanding infrastructure challenge themselves, while highlighting their continued appeal for government intervention to provide a lasting solution to the road’s poor condition.
