Ghanaian Vlogger Wode Maya Wraps Up Sierra Leone Tour

Ghanaian YouTube creator and media personality Kobina Ackon, popularly known as Wode Maya, has completed an extensive tour of Sierra Leone, using his visit to showcase the country’s natural attractions, cultural heritage, food, and community-driven development initiatives.

Wode Maya travelled across several parts of the country with a digital production team that included LOYCE Fitness, Naa Atswei, and local guide Alusine Fambulleh, documenting his experiences and sharing them with his growing audience.

His tour began in the Western Area, where he visited some of Sierra Leone’s prominent tourist and historical sites, including River No. 2 Beach, Banana Island and the ECOWAS Unity Wall in Freetown.

Beyond the country’s tourist attractions, the content creator also explored Sierra Leone’s food and cultural traditions. He sampled local market delicacies and breakfast dishes while engaging with communities and capturing traditional dances and other aspects of everyday life.

Wode Maya later travelled north to Kabala in Koinadugu District, where he visited surrounding communities and documented grassroots development initiatives in Warawara Yagaya Chiefdom.

One of the highlights of his visit was witnessing local young people taking the initiative to construct and repair roads in their communities, an experience that underscored the role of community participation in local development.

In Kabuita, Wode Maya also met a local innovator who had reportedly spent 19 years building a custom helicopter. Impressed by the project and the dedication behind it, he presented the inventor with a $700 donation to support the continuation of his work.

His journey also took him to the Gola Rainforest National Park, where he highlighted Sierra Leone’s rich biodiversity and the importance of protecting the country’s natural environment and conservation efforts.

Towards the end of his tour, Wode Maya and the LOYCE Fitness team met with the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Hon. Nabeela Farida Tunis, for discussions on tourism, culture and healthy living.

During the engagement, Wode Maya praised Sierra Leoneans for what he described as a strong culture of daily physical activity. He also noted the country’s natural terrain and leadership as factors that can encourage healthier lifestyles and longevity.

Wode Maya concluded his tour in Freetown before departing Sierra Leone, expressing appreciation for the hospitality he received during his stay.

He also encouraged Africans to explore and promote destinations within the continent, stressing the importance of domestic tourism, cultural exchange and community-led development in strengthening Africa’s tourism industry.
