Giants of Africa Launches Basketball Training Clinic in Freetown

The renowned basketball development initiative, Giants of Africa, has officially launched activities in Freetown, marking a significant step in the growth of the sport in Sierra Leone.


The program tipped off on [insert date if needed] at the SportsZone Arena, where more than 30 female basketball players and coaches participated in an intensive training clinic focused on elite-level skill development.


Day one of the clinic placed strong emphasis on fundamental skills, with senior FIBA and Giants of Africa instructor Joe Touomou leading practical sessions. The training focused on improving game intelligence, including reading the game, mastering the triple-threat position, and playing with confidence.


The session also underscored a commitment to promoting gender equity and advancing women’s basketball, while building long-term technical capacity among both players and coaches.


Organizers say the initiative will continue with additional training sessions aimed at strengthening basketball development pathways and inspiring the next generation of female athletes in the country.
