Government Confirms Arrival of 942 Repatriated Sierra Leoneans from Guinea

The Government of Sierra Leone has confirmed that 942 Sierra Leoneans, including adults and children, have been safely received at the Kambia border following their repatriation from Guinea.

According to an official press release from the Ministry of Information and Civic Education, Guinean authorities conducted an exercise on 23 March 2026 in the Boulbinet Port area of Conakry, targeting undocumented foreign residents. Sierra Leoneans found with valid documentation were released, while those without proper status were scheduled for return to Sierra Leone.

The government stated that its Embassy in Conakry engaged Guinean authorities to ensure the process was conducted in an orderly and humane manner, with full respect for the rights and dignity of those affected. Officials from both countries are jointly managing the return process at the border, including screening, documentation, and the facilitation of safe repatriation to various communities.

“The public is encouraged to remain calm and rely on verified information from official government channels,” the Ministry of Information and Civic Education stated.

Authorities further confirmed that arrangements for onward transportation and reintegration of the returnees are currently underway. The government also reaffirmed its commitment to continue monitoring the situation and maintaining diplomatic engagement with Guinea.
