Government Engages Waterloo Residents on Redistricting and Census

Residents of Waterloo will have an opportunity to share their views on redistricting and the 2026 Census during the Civic Day Series on October 20, organised by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education in partnership with other government institutions and development partners.
The engagement will take place at the Western Area Rural District Council Hall in Waterloo, with the Ministry of Local Government, Statistics Sierra Leone, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) participating as partners.
The discussions will focus on two national activities with implications for planning and development across Sierra Leone: redistricting and the 2026 Census.
Redistricting involves reviewing administrative boundaries and the organisation of localities. The Ministry of Local Government has previously explained that such changes may be influenced by population growth, geographical considerations and the need to improve local administration and access to public services.
The 2026 Population and Housing Census is intended to provide population data to inform national planning and resource allocation across communities. Statistics Sierra Leone has also urged citizens to prepare to participate in the census.
Through the Civic Day Series, the organisers aim to bring these issues closer to communities by creating an opportunity for stakeholders and ordinary citizens to discuss the activities and offer their views.
The Waterloo engagement is scheduled for October 20, 2026, at the Western Area Rural District Council Hall.
