Government Reaffirms Transparency in Petroleum Sector Amid Global Tensions

The Government of Sierra Leone has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency in the petroleum sector amid public concern over the ongoing Middle East conflict.

Speaking at the weekly press conference of the Ministry of Information and Civic Education, Minister Chernor Bah detailed reforms implemented under President Dr. Julius Maada Bio’s administration. He noted that the downstream petroleum sector has expanded from two market players to ten, alongside increased storage capacity and the introduction of a transparent pricing formula.

“These measures demonstrate our continued commitment to openness and accountability in managing the petroleum sector,” Minister Bah said, emphasizing that the government operates with transparency and integrity.

He explained that the reforms aim to strengthen market competitiveness, improve consumer access to fuel, and enhance efficiency in supply management. By increasing the number of sector players and upgrading storage infrastructure, the government is better positioned to respond to market fluctuations and external developments that may affect fuel availability and pricing.

The remarks come as citizens closely follow global developments in the Middle East, which could impact fuel supply. Minister Bah stressed that the government’s approach ensures petroleum operations are conducted transparently and responsibly, helping maintain stability for consumers across the country.
