Grand Homecoming Celebration Prepared for Global Ambassador Mariyam Konneh

A celebration is underway as Sierra Leone prepares a grand welcome for Miss World Sierra Leone 2026, Mariyam Lorba Konneh, following her standout performance at the global pageant in Vietnam.

Mariyam is set to touch down on Monday, September 7, arriving at the Sea Coach terminal in Aberdeen at approximately 6:00 PM.

The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs (MTCA) announced plans for a high-profile reception to honor her journey and achievements on the international stage.

Competing alongside 111 contestants worldwide, Mariyam used the international platform to highlight Sierra Leone’s vibrant heritage, tourism potential, and critical social causes impacting young people.

Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Nabeela Farida Tunis, lauded Mariyam’s journey as an extraordinary source of national pride.

“Mariyam showcased the beauty, intelligence, resilience, and cultural richness of Sierra Leone to the entire world,” said Minister Tunis. “Beyond the pageant stage, she has embodied the true spirit of our nation and stands as an inspiring role model for our youth. We are thrilled to welcome her home.”

The Minister emphasized that Mariyam's global engagement reinforces government initiatives leveraging arts, culture, and tourism to boost Sierra Leone’s international standing as a premier destination for culture and investment.

At just 22 years old, Mariyam Lorba Konneh boasts an impressive list of accolades. A former AYV Miss University Sierra Leone 2022 and Miss Sierra Leone 2026, she is also a final-year Banking and Finance student at IPAM, University of Sierra Leone.

Beyond academics and pageantry, Mariyam is a TV presenter, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. As CEO of Mariyam’s Ways Limited and Founder of the Mariyam’s Ways Foundation, she drives community development and youth empowerment programs, earning her a spot among the 50 Most Influential Women in Sierra Leone.

Preparations for the national reception feature traditional music, vibrant dance displays, and cultural showcases designed to celebrate both Mariyam and the collective effort of the Ministry, the Miss Sierra Leone Board led by Dr. Adonis Abboud, and corporate sponsors like AYV Media Empire.
