The Freetown City Council (FCC) and the National Protected Area Authority (NPAA) have reviewed a key concession agreement and benefit-sharing framework to enhance the management and protection of mangrove restoration sites across the Western Area.
Held on Friday, September 4, 2026, the joint review is a crucial milestone in advancing the #FreetownTheTreeTown initiative toward official registration on the international carbon credit market.
Under the proposed concession, clear governance structures, stewardship protocols, and equitable benefit-sharing mechanisms will be established for local communities and stakeholders involved in site restoration.
Reaffirming its support, the NPAA committed to providing ongoing technical assistance and strategic collaboration to ensure the long-term protection of the newly restored coastal ecosystems.
