Health Ministry and Riders for Health Partner to Boost Transport

In a decisive step toward transforming medical logistics and emergency response across Sierra Leone, the Ministry of Health met with senior representatives from Riders for Health on Friday to discuss a nationwide partnership.
The proposed collaboration focuses on optimizing emergency ambulance fleets, streamlining patient referral networks, and accelerating the distribution of critical vaccines and medicines, particularly in remote and riverine regions.
Riders for Health, an African-led social enterprise specializing in health-fleet management across challenging terrains, recently completed comprehensive joint assessments with the Ministry. These evaluations identified crucial operational gaps in supply-chain transportation and emergency response capacity.
Addressing these challenges is pivotal to the Ministry’s ongoing "300 Days of Activism" initiative, which prioritizes maternal and child health interventions statewide.
"Challenging terrain and limited transit options must never dictate whether a patient receives lifesaving care," emphasized Dr. Jalikatu Mustapha, the Deputy Minister of Health II, who chaired the meeting.
"We are dedicated to building sustainable transport solutions so every community, no matter how isolated, gains reliable access to healthcare."
