Hon. Fallah Kenawah Tengbeh, Member of Parliament for Kailahun District, has raised concerns regarding unconfirmed reports that Guinean forces allegedly threatened to occupy Sokoma village, a settlement situated approximately 200–300 metres from Yenga.
During an interview with Truth Media, Hon. Tengbeh stated that he received credible information indicating that armed Guinean personnel, equipped with Light Machine Guns (LMGs) and Heavy Machine Guns (HNGs), entered the area currently manned by Sierra Leonean soldiers. According to the MP, the Guinean forces reportedly informed local residents and the soldiers that Sokoma is Guinean territory and indicated their intention to return to claim the village.
“This is a serious security development,” Hon. Tengbeh commented, strongly urging the government to deploy additional personnel to safeguard the nation’s territorial integrity. “A nation’s existence is fundamentally dependent on its territories. The potential loss of even a small village poses a direct threat to the sovereignty of the state.”
The MP further highlighted that this alleged incident exacerbates existing tensions concerning the Falaba area, underscoring the critical need for enhanced vigilance and reinforced border security within Kailahun District.
As of this time, government officials have not issued a public statement regarding these latest reports.
