Herbalist Arraigned for Gold Fraud and False Pretenses

On Monday, April 13, 2026, a herbalist appeared in court to address allegations of appropriating gold and money belonging to a client, facing charges of fraudulent conversion and obtaining money by false pretenses.


The defendant, Alhaji Yillah, 45, was granted bail by Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah of Pademba Road Court No. 1.


Mr. Yillah is charged with two counts under the Larceny Act 1916: fraudulent conversion (Section 20(1)(a)) and obtaining money by false pretenses (Section 32(1)).


The offense particulars specify that on March 9, 2026, in Koidu City, Kono Judicial District, Eastern Province, Sierra Leone, the defendant allegedly engaged in the fraudulent conversion of thirty-two carats of gold, valued at twenty thousand eight hundred Leones (Le 20,800), entrusted to him by the complainant, Komba Kanjama Suku Tamba, for the purpose of ring fabrication.


The second count alleges that on the same date and location, the defendant, with intent to defraud, obtained fifteen thousand Leones (Le 15,000) from Mr. Suku Tamba by making a false representation that he would create a gold ring for the complainant and his two children.
