Ady Macauley, a prominent legal professional and All People’s Congress (APC) flagbearer aspirant, has asserted that President Julius Maada Bio possesses the constitutional authority to remove the Chief Electoral Commissioner, Edmond Sylvester Alpha, in accordance with the legal statutes of Sierra Leone.

During an appearance on AYV’s "Wake Up Sierra Leone," Macauley analyzed the institutional and legal frameworks governing the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL). He argued that established constitutional provisions grant the executive branch specific oversight capabilities regarding the leadership of the Commission.

Macauley clarified that such an action would not constitute a constitutional breach, provided it is executed within the defined legal parameters of the office. He emphasized that the existing regulations permit executive intervention under certain specified conditions.

The discussion also touched upon the critical importance of electoral governance. Macauley noted that the perceived independence and integrity of electoral institutions remain pivotal topics in the national political discourse as the country prepares for upcoming electoral cycles.

The tenure of the ECSL leadership has become a subject of significant public interest. Stakeholders continue to deliberate on necessary reforms to enhance institutional transparency and bolster the credibility of the electoral process in Sierra Leone.
