Nine third-party nationals, comprising the initial cohort, arrived at Freetown International Airport on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, and were subsequently accommodated in a Lungi hotel, according to reports by Truth Media.
While local media access to the group was restricted, reports indicate that several individuals have voiced objections regarding their relocation to Sierra Leone and have formally requested expedited repatriation to their respective nations of origin.
Foreign Affairs Minister Timothy Kabba, speaking on the Truth Morning Devotion program, confirmed that the government is actively engaging with the relevant member states to facilitate the necessary repatriation procedures.
A joint fact sheet issued by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation confirmed that a $1.5 million grant from the United States Government, designated for the processing of these nationals, will be administered by Kenvah Solutions, a dedicated humanitarian and operational service provider.
Kenvah Solutions' mandated responsibilities include managing airport reception, temporary housing, provision of essential supplies (food and non-food items), healthcare and psychosocial support, logistics, and coordination of the group's repatriation.
This arrival signifies the commencement of Sierra Leone’s implementation phase of the U.S. transfer arrangement, with governmental authorities prioritizing the provision of comprehensive accommodation, welfare support, and effective coordination of repatriation processes with the pertinent international partners.
