The Government of Sierra Leone has initiated a comprehensive program to settle outstanding salary arrears for employees of the Sierra Leone Telecommunications Company (Sierratel), leveraging an innovative public-private partnership framework.
This inter-ministerial effort is spearheaded by the Ministry of Communication, Technology, and Innovation, under the leadership of Minister Salima Monorma Bah, in coordination with the Ministry of Employment, Labour, and Social Security, led by Minister Mohamed Rahman Swaray.
Following Cabinet approval, the government is collaborating with private sector stakeholders to execute an advance payment facility of approximately US$2 million. This structured financial intervention is specifically designed to address immediate obligations and stabilize the workforce.
Minister Salima Monorma Bah emphasized that these discussions have yielded sustainable solutions for affected personnel, marking a definitive milestone in resolving the institution's protracted fiscal challenges.
Minister Mohamed Rahman Swaray affirmed the government's commitment to employee welfare, stating that rigorous measures are being implemented to ensure that all remuneration, including leave allowances and statutory entitlements, is fully reconciled.
Furthermore, the Ministry confirmed that consultations regarding end-of-service benefits are underway as part of a broader organizational restructuring and resolution strategy.
Representatives of the Sierratel staff welcomed the intervention, noting that the timely disbursement of funds will significantly mitigate personal financial liabilities, including educational and housing expenses.
This initiative underscores a strategic commitment to institutional stabilization and the enhancement of employee welfare through formal, transparent financial support mechanisms.
