The Internal Affairs Minister, Morie Lengor Esq. (AIG RTD), has strongly cautioned the public against physically assaulting individuals struggling with drug use, including those using kush, emphasizing that such actions are illegal and violate the fundamental human rights of the victims.
Speaking during an online media interview, Minister Lengor stressed the importance of following proper legal procedures when dealing with drug users. He explained that the correct approach is to arrest suspects and hand them over to the police, rather than resorting to violence.
The minister clarified that his office’s role is to interrogate drug users to trace and apprehend drug dealers, not to punish the users themselves. This ensures investigations are conducted effectively while respecting the rights of all individuals involved.
Lengor’s warning comes amid growing reports of vigilante attacks on drug users in some communities. He urged citizens to report cases to the authorities instead of taking the law into their own hands, reinforcing that legal action is the only acceptable response.
His statement serves as a reminder that vigilantism is unacceptable, and protecting the rights and safety of individuals, even those struggling with addiction, is both a legal and moral obligation.
Citizens are encouraged to cooperate with law enforcement to ensure the fight against drug trafficking is conducted fairly and effectively.
