Jagaban Denounces Remand of Dumbuya, Calls for Upholding Democratic Principles

Alhaji Mohamed Omodu Kamara, widely known as Jagaban and a flagbearer aspirant for the All People's Congress (APC), has voiced profound concern regarding the remand of the party’s National Secretary General, Lansana Dumbuya Esq. He characterized the event as a troubling development for Sierra Leone's democratic landscape.

In an official public statement, Jagaban asserted that a healthy democracy is incompatible with the criminalization of political expression. He underscored that opposition activity is a constitutional right that must be safeguarded under the rule of law.

“The rule of law must function to protect, not diminish, democratic space,” he declared, stressing the necessity that justice must be demonstrably and unequivocally served.

He urged all state institutions to act with strict neutrality, judicious restraint, and full respect for due process, emphasizing the critical importance of fairness and transparency throughout the handling of this case.

“Sierra Leone is a shared inheritance, and state institutions are mandated to serve every citizen impartially, without bias or undue influence,” he remarked.

Jagaban also appealed to APC supporters for calm, discipline, and peaceful conduct, advising against provocation and advocating for engagement through lawful means.

“We are committed to justice, to free expression, and to the principles of democracy,” he proclaimed, calling upon the nation to prioritize constructive dialogue over intimidation and democratic values over fear.

Mr. Dumbuya was recently remanded following a court appearance on charges that include incitement, insulting conduct, and public insult directed against the President. The legal matter has been adjourned until February 16, 2026.
