Kamarainba Tells President Bio: Stop Chasing MCC Score, Face Sierra Leoneans’ Hardship”

Former opposition politician Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray has urged President Julius Maada Bio to prioritize the country’s worsening economic challenges over the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) scorecard.

In a statement widely shared online, Kamarainba said the MCC scorecard paints “a flattering picture that does not match the daily hardship Sierra Leoneans endure.” He highlighted issues including “bad spending,” weak oversight, poor auditing, and concerns around transparency and accountability.

Citing the World Bank’s 7th Economic Update, he noted that the private sector remains weak, job creation is stagnating, and foreign reserves fell to 1.5 months of import cover by mid-2025. Poverty has risen to 32.7 percent, and 82 percent of households are food insecure.

Kamarainba told President Bio: “Ngor Maada, stop focusing on MCC score and face the excruciating hardship and the suffering reality the people face daily in Sierra Leone.” He stressed that real progress requires “good governance, accountability, and a justice system that protects everyone.”

His comments raise questions about whether international scorecards reflect real conditions and whether government priorities match the daily struggles of citizens.
