The Honorable Abdul Kargbo, Opposition Leader in Parliament, has formally expressed grave concern following reports of the deportation of Sierra Leonean nationals from Guinea, characterizing the situation as "deeply worrisome."

In a public statement, Hon. Kargbo alleged that Guinean security forces deployed tear gas against citizens during the deportation process. While these claims remain subject to independent verification, he asserted that such reported mistreatment signifies a distressing disregard for the dignity and safety of Sierra Leoneans abroad.

Furthermore, Hon. Kargbo contextualized these diplomatic tensions by referencing the recent discovery of illicit substances in a Sierra Leonean government vehicle. He urged the administration to take immediate corrective measures to restore national credibility and cooperate fully with international authorities.

"The mistreatment of innocent Sierra Leonean citizens in foreign jurisdictions is unacceptable and necessitates a resolute and coordinated national response," stated Hon. Kargbo.

He emphasized that the protection of citizens abroad is a fundamental governmental responsibility, calling for decisive action to prevent further incidents. Hon. Kargbo also noted that strained bilateral relations could adversely impact regional trade, security, and cooperation, underscores the necessity for a prompt diplomatic resolution.

These remarks coincide with heightened public concern and extensive media coverage regarding the deportations. Hon. Kargbo stressed that transparency and accountability are paramount when managing cross-border incidents, maintaining that the welfare of citizens must remain the priority in all diplomatic and security considerations.

As the situation continues to evolve, the Opposition Leader’s comments reflect a growing demand for the government to ensure the security and safe passage of Sierra Leoneans currently at the border.
