Kei Kamara Concludes Illustrious Career at Age 41

Sierra Leonean football icon Kei Kamara has officially announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 41, marking the conclusion of a distinguished and enduring career.

Recognized as one of the most prolific strikers in Major League Soccer (MLS) history, Kamara retires as the league’s second all-time leading scorer, having recorded 131 goals in 368 appearances. His professional consistency and longevity earned him a reputation as one of the most respected forwards of his generation.

Throughout his tenure, Kamara achieved the unique milestone of becoming the first MLS player to score for nine different clubs—a record that underscores his adaptability and clinical finishing. He concluded his club career with FC Cincinnati.

Kamara’s contributions to the Sierra Leone national team established him as a cornerstone of the sport in his home country. Most notably, he converted the decisive penalty that secured Sierra Leone’s qualification for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, ending a significant absence from the tournament. 

His international career spanned 17 years before his formal retirement from representative football in October 2025.
