The Honourable Member of Parliament for Kenema District, and Leader of Government Business in Parliament, Hon. Mathew Sahr Nyuma, officially commissioned the construction of the Combema Mini Bridge, a key infrastructure project linking numerous communities to Kenema City.
The event, held on Saturday, was well attended by government officials, local leaders, and community stakeholders.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Hon. Nyuma expressed gratitude to the Road Maintenance Fund Administration (RMFA) and its funding partners for supporting the project. He highlighted the importance of improved connectivity for local communities and the broader development of the district.
The multi-million-leone project involves the construction of two main mini bridges leading to Combema and surrounding villages, and is expected to be completed within three months. Chief Executive Officer of the RMFA, Mr. Mohamed Kallon, detailed the scope of the project, noting the difficulties residents face during the rainy season. He encouraged all stakeholders, including political actors, to actively support and monitor the construction process.
Deputy Mayor of Kenema City, Mrs. Rugiatu Koroma, described the initiative as a significant contribution to the city’s development. She emphasized the project’s benefits for current and future generations and pledged the council’s commitment to ensuring its success.
Contractor Alhaji Amidu Bah, also known as Simbaru, called for collaborative efforts from all stakeholders during the construction period. He noted that an alternative route would be in place to facilitate movement along the road.
Councillor Moinina of Kenema City Council expressed appreciation for the inclusion of his community in the development initiative, describing the bridge construction as a “dream come true.” He highlighted the project’s potential to improve learning facilities, enhance business opportunities, and boost overall community development.
The ceremony concluded with the official turning of the sod by the stakeholders present, marking the formal start of the Combema Mini Bridges project a testament to the government’s commitment to infrastructure development and improved connectivity in Sierra Leone.
