Koinadugu Council Unveils Five-Year Plan

The Koinadugu District Council has launched its 2026–2030 Development Plan, outlining key priorities for infrastructure, agriculture, and the delivery of basic services across the district over the next five years. The launch took place on November 2nd and 3rd 2026, at the District Council Hall, with the participation of Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security Umaru Napoleon Koroma, who delivered the keynote address, and Minister of Political Affairs and Public Administration, Amara Kallon.

The engagement brought together Council Chairman Lawrence Teteh, council officials, traditional leaders, representatives of non-governmental organisations, and other stakeholders from across the district.

Supported by the World Bank, the development plan is themed “Opening Roads, Growing Food, and Improving Basic Services in Every Chiefdom.”

It identifies road construction, increased agricultural productivity, and improved access to essential services as major areas of focus. Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Amara Kallon highlighted the responsibility of citizens to protect national institutions and the interests of the country, noting that government decisions have implications for the wider population, regardless of political affiliation.

He also acknowledged the contributions of Minister Umaru Napoleon Koroma to development efforts in Koinadugu and Falaba districts, describing his commitment as an encouragement to his own work.

In his keynote address, Minister Koroma assured residents of the government’s continued support, identifying electricity as one of the district’s major development needs while highlighting the importance of improved road infrastructure and other essential amenities.

He pledged to advocate for government support towards the implementation of the plan, stressing that it should translate into tangible development outcomes rather than remain a document. Minister Koroma further noted that Koinadugu District Council was the first to develop a plan of this nature, describing the initiative as an important step towards addressing the district’s development priorities.
