Sierra Leone Exports Benefit from EU EBA

Sierra Leonean businesses have an opportunity to expand exports to the European market through the European Union's Everything But Arms (EBA) scheme, which grants eligible products duty-free and quota-free access for all goods except arms and ammunition.
These opportunities were highlighted at a high-level event organised by the EU Delegation in Sierra Leone on 4th November 2026, bringing together local business leaders and government officials to mark 25 years of the initiative alongside discussions on the renewed Generalised Scheme of Preferences (GSP).
Speaking at the gathering, EU Ambassador Jacek Jankowski reflected on EBA's role in opening European markets to developing nations, noting how the arrangement provides a vital route for Sierra Leone to export agricultural products such as cocoa, coffee, palm oil, and cashew.
Participants discussed leveraging Sierra Leone's natural resources, strategic Atlantic location, and growing entrepreneurial population to add value to local products, create decent jobs, and build economic resilience.
The event also connected attendees virtually to the 25th anniversary celebration in Brussels, looking ahead to the renewed GSP framework taking effect on 1 January 2027.
