A 38-year-old laborer, Amadu Kamara, has been remanded in custody after making his initial court appearance before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown.
Kamara is facing three counts of conspiracy, office breaking, and larceny in connection with the alleged theft of items from the Ministry of Finance.
According to the police charge sheet, he is accused of conspiring on May 24, 2026, at the Treasury Building within the Ministry of Finance in Freetown, with unknown persons, to commit a felony involving office breaking and larceny.
He is further alleged to have broken into the Information Technology and Communication (ITC) Unit on the same date and stolen a glass aluminum soundproof slide window valued at 60,000 Leones and a double window curtain worth 8,000 Leones, totalling 68,000 Leones.
Prosecutors also alleged that on May 26, 2026, Kamara stole a swivel arm chair valued at 145,000 Leones from the same premises.
When the charges were read in court, the accused did not enter a plea, as the matter is a committal proceeding.
Police Constable 18235 Thoronka K, the prosecutor, informed the court that the defendant had been served with a copy of the case file.
Kamara, who is not legally represented, told the court that he did not wish to cross-examine any witnesses, stating that the matter was his own doing.
Magistrate Fornah ordered a subpoena for the investigating officer and adjourned the matter to June 17, 2026, for further hearing.
The court’s decision follows ongoing investigations into the alleged thefts at the Ministry of Finance.
