Labour Minister Pledges Continuity in Existing Partnerships and Reforms

Sierra Leone’s Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security, Umaru Napoleon Koroma, has assured technical expert Mr Tundari of his commitment to sustaining ongoing labour reforms and existing partnerships following the Ministry’s leadership transition.

Koroma gave the assurance on October 12, 2026, during a courtesy visit by Tundari, who has supported the Ministry over the years. The Ministry’s Commissioner, Mr Bockarie, welcomed the visitor and explained the purpose of the engagement.

“It was just a change of leadership, not a change of regime. So, whatever was happening, I will continue,” the Minister said, adding that ongoing initiatives would resume from where they had stopped.

Koroma also highlighted the National Labour Conferences as important platforms for government and private-sector stakeholders to discuss employment challenges and showcase their contributions to the Government’s 500,000 Jobs Agenda.

welcomed the assurance and reaffirmed his organisation’s commitment to supporting the Ministry. Reflecting on his four years in Sierra Leone, he commended progress in labour reforms, particularly in social protection, labour standards, workers’ welfare and the Decent Work Programme.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to continued cooperation in advancing labour reforms, strengthening social protection and promoting decent work in Sierra Leone.
