Le1.3 Billion Withdrawals: SLFA AFCON Account Under Scrutiny
A Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) account at the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank is under financial scrutiny following Le1.307 billion(old Leones) in cash withdrawals and expenditures tied to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) preparations.
The account, which opened with an initial balance of Le11.93 million, was augmented by major corporate sponsorships, including Le1 billion from Sierra Leone Commercial Bank and Le700 million from Africell. However, subsequent cash transactions totaling Le1.307 billion reportedly violated SLFA financial policies.
Key expenditures under investigation include Le575 million spent on November 5, 2021, for hotel reservations and preparatory logistics.
Additionally, on November 10, 2021, the SLFA Finance Director allegedly conducted three counter-cheque cash withdrawals amounting to Le429 million in breach of established cash-handling protocols.
Following these findings, SLFA Finance Manager Ibrahim Bah was suspended for failing to submit necessary retirements and supporting documentation for the spent funds. Bah was unavailable for comment at press time.
