World Bank, Sierra Leone Discuss US$600 Million Development Financing Envelope

Sierra Leone and the World Bank have discussed development priorities and an estimated US$600 million financing envelope available to the country, with both sides seeking stronger cooperation and improved results from World Bank-supported programmes.
The discussions took place during a visit by World Bank Vice President for Africa West and Central, Ousmane Diagana, accompanied by the Bank’s new Country Manager for Sierra Leone, Issatou Jalloh.
Diagana met Finance Minister Karefa A. F. Kargbo, with discussions focusing on fiscal discipline, domestic revenue mobilisation, cash flow management, social cohesion and improved public services.
The two sides also reviewed the Country Partnership Framework and the Development Policy Operation, with Kargbo committing to meeting agreed deadlines and completing outstanding processes for the policy operation by the end of October.
Kargbo called for stronger coordination, clear benchmarks and frank dialogue to protect Sierra Leone’s access to future World Bank financing.
The delegation later engaged selected Cabinet Ministers, who presented progress and challenges across key sectors including health, education, gender, fisheries, transport, environment, energy, technology and lands.
Financial Secretary Matthew Dingie expressed appreciation for the World Bank’s continued support and hope for additional financing, while Kargbo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering measurable results from development resources.
