The Sierra Leone senior national football team, the Leone Stars, has formally initiated its campaign for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with an intensive training regimen at the SLFA Football Academy in Kingtom.

Immediately following the official qualification draw held in Rabat, Morocco, the technical team swiftly convened the squad to begin preparations. The inaugural session, meticulously supervised by the coaching staff, placed a core emphasis on establishing foundational fitness levels and implementing initial tactical frameworks to set a professional standard for the upcoming campaign.

The camp features a robust contingent of elite players from the Sierra Leone Premier League, significantly augmented by the timely presence of several foreign-based professionals. These international players, utilizing their holiday period in Freetown, have proactively joined the domestic squad. This early integration is considered critical for maintaining their peak match conditioning and providing invaluable mentorship, thereby accelerating team cohesion well in advance of the first official FIFA international window of 2026.

With the 2027 AFCON co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, the competition for qualification is heightened. The Leone Stars are focused on rigorous tactical discipline, seamless integration of domestic and international talents, and optimal physical conditioning to ensure a successful return to the continental stage.
