Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden, a former cabinet minister of the All People’s Congress (APC), has confirmed a recent meeting with APC presidential aspirant, Alhaji Mohamed Omodu Kamara, widely known as Jagaban. The meeting took place on the evening of December 27, 2025, at Dr. Blyden’s private residence, shortly after her return to Sierra Leone for Christmas.
The engagement followed Jagaban’s public statement on October 7, 2025, which explicitly denounced gender-based political attacks directed at Dr. Blyden and instructed his campaign team to refrain from such conduct. Dr. Blyden had previously welcomed the statement, describing it as a commendable act of leadership, and indicated her intent to meet Jagaban upon her return.
Dr. Blyden characterized the discussion as constructive, noting that it focused on shared ideas and issues pertinent to Sierra Leone's national interest. The meeting underscored the importance of political leaders taking responsibility for their followers' conduct and promoting respectful political discourse, particularly concerning women in leadership. Jagaban is currently vying for the APC’s presidential flagbearer position.
