Leone Stars Return Home After 2-1 Win Over Djibouti in Final World Cup Qualifier

The Leone Stars arrived safely in Freetown on Tuesday morning from Morocco following a 2-1 victory over Djibouti in their final 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match at Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca.


Djibouti took an early lead in the 29th minute through Abdichakour Farah, but Sierra Leone responded just before halftime when Abdulay Juma Bah scored in stoppage time to level the match at 1-1. The winning goal came in the 72nd minute from Sallieu Tarawallie, securing all three points for the Leone Stars.


With this result, Sierra Leone concluded their World Cup qualifying campaign with 15 points, finishing third in Group A. Despite missing out on World Cup qualification, the team displayed resilience and determination throughout the campaign.


The Leone Stars return home with renewed confidence as they now turn their focus to preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations and other upcoming international competitions.
